In my view, it's like we're at a point where both sides have a cannon pointed at each other, and both cannons have the power to totally destroy the other, and all the people the cannons are supposed to protect. Increasing the size or number of cannons isn't going to change anything, other than to put money in the pockets of weapons manufacturers.
In war terms, there is a tactical advantage in possessing sophisticated small scale weapons, and defensive technologies, but we don't need more big weapons. Nor should we trigger another arms race by building them.
The war that's being waged right now is in cyber space. In a sense, it destroys from within. It rots nations from the inside out.
