What if, human skin cells can be transformed directly into motor neurons?

Many years ago I spoke with a PHD using skin stem cells for research . This sounds promising.
Human skin cells transformed directly into motor neurons
Date:
September 7, 2017
Source:
Washington University in St. Louis
Summary:
Scientists have converted skin cells from healthy adults directly into motor neurons without going through a stem cell state. The technique makes it possible to study motor neurons of the human central nervous system in the lab. Unlike commonly studied mouse motor neurons, human motor neurons growing in the lab would be a new tool since researchers can't take samples of these neurons from living people but can easily take skin samples.

More study is needed, but yeah, this does sound very interesting.
I find it odd that they don't have to coax the cells into a stem cell state first. They can go directly from skin to neuron.
That's good for research because the neuron will be aged rather than a newborn.
It will be developing the conditions that they want to study.

You're recent experiences suggest that's rare.
It seems like all they're interested in now is headlines. To heck with interaction. Headlines are what get them funded.

In the 1990's I discussed using skin stem cells to help autistic people with a scientist. He was the first. He was kind and actually answers my emails.
