I haven't heard it called that, but I have heard it's a carcinogen.
I don't have a sweet tooth, so in turn, I don't consume artificial sweeteners either.
Years ago I used diet mixes for drinks, but I can't even remember the last time I did.
To date, I don't think they've come up with a healthy artificial alternative to sugar.

The sugars I get are in my ketchup, fruits, veggies, and nuts. I have a bag of processed sugar in the cupboard that's at least a decade old. I'm sure it's as hard as a foundation block. And my salt container isn't much younger.

I use a little agave and occasionally have a small bit of cake. Agave does not raise your glycemic index but, too much is still no good. Sugar, Agave are not as bad as artificial or simple sugars. Studies have documented that simple sugars disrupt how our body metabolizes food and slow down the metabolism. Prolonged use of all simple sugars promotes diabetics and weight gain.
I read about these studies 12 or more years ago when I read Dr. Hyman's first book Ultra Metabolism.

Yeah.... Sugar itself is as bad as the artificial substitutes.

The fact is studies have documented that simple sugars slow the metabolism and promote diabetics.
