No, I hadn't.
If it saves lives, that's great.
There's a couple of ways it could.
First by directly impacting the virus' ability to replicate, but also, if it reduces recovery time, that frees up beds for more patients to receive quality hospital care. That will save loves too.

Anything shone to be effective should be approved for emergency use in hospitals.

I don't know if New York hospitals are using it yet or not, but I just checked New York's stats and fatalities have risen over the last month from around 5 or 6 to 15. The 15 was on 10/22/20.
They were real flat through much of the summer (single digits) but are rising again. I wouldn't call that a huge spike, though.

It sounds like remdesivir is saving life's. It saved President Trump.

Tania who gave me my flu shot yesterday is a pharmacist and PHD. She wanted to know about my experience with Coronavirus. She said here in New York people are no longer dying.
They have remdesivir and other stuff. I want to know if hospitals are being allowed to use it?

Thanks for the link.
In that study it looks like the mortality rate was about 4 to 5 percentage points better with remdesivir over a placebo.
From the study: "The Kaplan–Meier estimates of mortality were 6.7% with remdesivir and 11.9% with placebo by day 15 and 11.4% with remdesivir and 15.2% with placebo by day 29 (hazard ratio, 0.73; 95% CI, 0.52 to 1.03). Serious adverse events were reported in 131 of the 532 patients who received remdesivir (24.6%) and in 163 of the 516 patients who received placebo (31.6%)."

While that isn't exactly a cure, it's good news.

Once widely used in hospitals, we'll be getting more data.
Let's hope it's at least as good as the study.
I'm hoping in a cocktail of other drugs they can improve upon those numbers.

President Trump is in age group of concern. I have heard of studies where it worked. It is differently working.

That's just one person, so it's not confirmation.
We need to see how large groups of patients of all ages respond.
Remember, 97% of patients recover without it. Meaning, that number would have to be consistently higher to make any real determination.
I'm hoping it does work, but I wouldn't conclude it's a life saving treatment until the data is in. If people do, they get reckless and that could cost many lives.

Remdesivir saved President Trumps life and he is 74. There is no reason everyone should not survive.
My pharmacist said today people are now surviving.

Even with current treatments, the death rate is still high.

I agree. No reason anyone should die. We can now treat it.

I agree that the costs for treating COVID should be taken care of via insurance and government assistance.
Expense shouldn't be factor in treating COVID patients.

Exactly. President Trump said he want this and or free.
