We definitely need better, cleaner, and safer batteries, but the horrible labor conditions will exist, with or without them. Many industries are outsourcing labor to these unregulated countries.
We need legislation that prohibits the use of near slave labor. Laws that bar products made under those conditions from entering the US.
I don't think we should turn a blind eye to the fact that many of our possessions are made in sweatshops. Often by children.
I bring this up because the piece made it sound like the product's fault. That somehow if we change the product the issue will be resolved. It won't.
The only way it will change is if we take a stand and refuse services and products from those sources.

If international law can't get the job done, then I think if we refuse products made in sweatshops, it would have an impact. I'd like to see an organization and site that sources products for consumers. If a manufacturer is shown to be an abuser of labor, we could buy another brand.
Unfortunately, those companies would probably sue the pants off that organization and shut it down.

If the UN's priority was humanity they would be involved. Instead they interfere in U.S. policy, condemn the U.S.,Israel for defending our borders and citizens. Sadly, there is little the U.S. can actually do about other nations policies. Stating what we believe does not matter to evil nations unless it effects their leaders life.
