It sounds like it, but the same protein, when it changes, is harmful to the heart.
If they can successfully prevent that change, they may be able to use it as an Alzheimer's treatment.
I had a lot of contact with people suffering from Alzheimer's when I visited my mom in her nursing facility.
It's terrible disease.
One poor guy would sit and repeat the same things over and over again. I'd sit and listen as though it was the first I heard the story. I think he might have thought I was family.
Anyway, he did enjoy telling the story.
I hope this research yields some positive results.

The one my mom was in was pretty good in most respects, but there was plenty of room for improvement as well.
At one point they were giving her the wrong prescription.
There was also a theft problem. I'd leave her some spending cash in her drawer and it would disappear even when she hadn't spent any money on anything.
Since residents were free to roam, I can't be certain if it was staff or confused residents.
One thing I really liked was they had a lot of activities to keep everyone busy and entertained - games, movies, field trips etc.
They even had musicians come in and play in little combos.

They said my father's was good. The jerk helping him was not a licensed psychical therapist They are Edgars. That is ilegal. He got into Seaview reha but, rehab staff did not closely watch him. He had an attack and died in his sleep. I blame them. He recoverd on machine. but they promote blood clot. That properly killed him.
His cardiologist said, he was improving. I am shocked.

It sounds like you experienced the worst of nursing homes. Some are bad, and some are good, but there are way too many bad ones. They need to be better regulated, inspected and audited.

I did a paper for a sociology class my first term in college. A friend was a social worker at local nursing home. I got to interview nurses and observe. They had one man tied to a chair. It upset me terribly and I asked why. The nurse told me because our staff can not watch him 24/7. I said than and stilll would prefer death to being a nursing home. She was nurse to me and answered my questioms because they liked my friends. I got A on my paper but that visit haunts me for life.
My father was in a home. They had a fireman doing rehab and that is not legal. He got into seaview rehab. He was getting better but, he had another attack. They did not watch him closely and he died. He was suppose. be coming home. I prefer death to living ina home.
