Is a social reward circuit impaired in autistic children?

My son has been taught with ABA (postive reinforcement) since three. He likes to be alone sometimes. He will seek my attention often and seeks affection. At parties he looks for people he knows and likes. He was taught to socilize and he likes people. He is not interested in people he does not know.

They say it is.
They also said this, which is really encouraging:... "It would be exciting to conduct a clinical intervention study to determine whether the structural and functional integrity of this pathway can be altered through a reward-based learning paradigm,"
The brain is plastic, so that could very well be the case.
Your personal experience seems to back that up too.
I'm pretty much of a hermit, so my social interaction pathways might not be all that developed either.
I'd rather be surrounded by plants and animals than most people.

Yup. That's what you've said. I believe it works.

Yes ABA does structure the brain to act appropriately.
