Nope.
Actually, no one can. As in one of the videos Philosopher posted, there are a couple of popular theories, but physicists are still trying to puzzle this one out.

Here's a fairly recent video of the double slit experiment, which presents a pretty good visual of what is being observed.
About midway through, it seems they've come close to solving the riddle. But later, something even more perplexing is discovered.

Someone like Dr. Kaku, explains this well enough that I say O. I understand no more than you. I enjoy discussing it with Kraven you and all bright people.
I couldn't find a Dr. Kaku video on Obsever affect. Science Channel may have it.
Spectrum took over Time Warner. They removed our Science Channel. I am very annoyed. Time Warner had give us a great price to switch from Verizon Fios. We are exploring options. Both companies are over price and their commercials are fraudulent.
