Is this the smart phone of the future?

A new phone concept designed by Philippe Starck and Jerome Olivet is a voice activated, gelatinous, transparent futuristic vision of where smartphones could go.
Continuing with the trend of subtracting hardware, the phone contains no screen but will be capable of projecting 3D holograms.

Yikes! What a weird gadget.
It's hard to say if it'll fly commercially. Long term it will have to be more than gelatinous and able to project holograms.
Techies will beat down the doors to get one in the beginning, but I'm sure other phones will have hologram capabilities too.
It's soft body will certainly be an attention getter, though.

That's also a noisy situation in which voice recognition wouldn't be ideal.
If we're to have our devices secured with biometrics, we need multiple methods on each device.

The thumb thing annoyed me and sometimes it did not work.
LOL imagine standing in noisy Costco knowing your husband should be there by now. The store is enormous and finding him will take too long but, you can not call. GRRR.

I think all biometric security has a down side depending on conditions at any given moment. That's why I think devices should have a suite of biometrics, so the user can choose to use the one that fits their current location or situation.
Just one biometric "key" is limiting.
Consumer biometrics are just now starting to take off, so I'm thinking the suites will come in time.
Right now manufacturers are still testing the waters trying to determine which methods are preferred by consumers.

Better technology is coming. Some models will succeed and others will fail.
I hated having to use my thumb to make a call. It is a pain in the middle of Costco.
I think using your face will not be prefect either.
In one episode of Big Bang they used their Iris (eye) to get inside a room. I liked that.
