I agree with him regarding our "being in the way".
Here's how I figure it: We already know, or are pretty darn certain that there aren't any hidden advanced civilizations within our system. That means if we were visited by aliens, they would have interstellar travel down. If they have interstellar travel down, they would have an infinite number of choices, in terms of planets with desirable natural resources. Natural resources are all we could possibly offer, with the possible exception of one thing.... The DNA of a humanoid species. But getting that wouldn't require the plundering of the planet. A covert kidnapping or two, and it's a done deal.
I think our biggest concern is contamination in the form of pathogens, and technology, and the very likely social upheaval stemming from their visit.
Not to mention, if they've survived as long as they must have to have developed interstellar travel, they would be non aggressive. Aggression is self destructive.
